Pontiac Independent has provided ongoing coverage of the proposed Samonix land-based Atlantic salmon aquaculture facility in Litchfield, Quebec. The more than $300-million project would produce an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 metric tonnes of salmon annually and withdraw and discharge millions of litres of water each day from the Ottawa River. Given its scale, we believe it is important that residents understand the proposed project and its potential implications in order to support informed public discussion and decision-making.
